For anyone, attending a couture show in Paris would be a monthly (maybe even yearly!) highlight—but for global superstar Tyla, who attended Valentino’s spring presentation from Alessandro Michele yesterday, it was just a regular ol’ Wednesday. “I flew in and went straight to the show,” Tyla tells Vogue, having performed on Jimmy Fallon in New York just the night prior. “In and out!”
Such a quick international jaunt was well worth it for the South African singer, given that it was her very first time attending couture week in the City of Light. (A surprising fact, given she is a well-documented fashion star.) “It feels very special to attend a fashion show, because I really enjoy watching fashion shows online,” says Tyla, who admits seeing a catwalk IRL hits different. “I love Paris, so I always love to come to Paris, and the fact I was here for Valentino—ayeeee!”

What was her review of the new showgirl-worthy Valentino couture collection? She reveled in the theatricality, for one, and the dazzling headgear specifically. “I really loved the show,” says Tyla. “Everything about it was fantastic. I really loved the hair pieces.”
Naturally, Tyla had to pull off her own fashion flex for the front row, so she and stylist Ron Hartleben landed on an embroidered mini dress for her that felt, well, very Y2K—and very Tyla. “I wanted to feel fresh, young, and modern—but still me, and still Valentino,” says Tyla. “I wanted to feel sexy.” Some of her favorite details, besides that dramatic cascading built-in train, were the accessories. “My favorite were these polka dot Rockstud heels. I’m obsessed with them,” she says. “I want them in every single color.” (We are, after all, in the era of the Rockstud revival, thanks to them being worn in the new The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer.)
While Tyla had fun leaning into a couture fantasy in Paris, the star has already jetted out of Europe—and is now heading to Los Angeles for the Grammys this weekend, where the singer earned a nomination in the best African music performance category with her hit song “Push 2 Start.” Soon enough, she will also be heading out on the road, too. “I’m excited to be going back to China to tour in the spring," she says. The life of an it-girl simply never stops.
