Dispatch fans fuming over censorship in Nintendo Switch port

Fans of AdHoc Studio’s smash hit superhero game Dispatch were left equal parts confused and frustrated by the title’s default censorship on the Nintendo Switch.

Dispatch released in late 2025 to high praise from players. AdHoc’s veteran staff of Telltale Games alumni brought superheroes’ everyday lives to the forefront, following former hero Robert Robertson as he works as an emergency dispatcher sending supes across Torrance, California to put out fires (literally).

The game is notoriously foul-mouthed and chock full of crude humor, along with some steamy romance scenes and full-frontal nudity.

PC and PlayStation 5 versions of the game let players choose whether or not they want to censor this nudity, and even gives them the option to switch out copyrighted music for royalty-free tunes. These toggles are useful for streamers who want to avoid getting demonetized or for those who might be playing around their families.

Dispatch’s censorship-by-default on the Nintendo Switch is leaving some players feeling restrained.

However, the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which officially launched in January 2026, takes away these options. Instead, the entire experience is fully censored by default, with black boxes covering nudity in all scenes, curse words getting bleeped out, and even fully removing the sensual sound effects from Invisigal’s romantic dream featuring Robert.

This censorship took fans off guard, leaving many frustrated and feeling that Nintendo may have overstepped its bounds.

“Really disappointed in the Switch port of Dispatch,” one player wrote on X. “No toggle on and off for censoring. I wouldn’t mind it if it were disclosed to us, but they held this to themselves until after launch. I would have bought it on PS5 if this were the case.”

“Dispatch is heavily censored on the Switch in ways that significantly damage the experience,” another argued. “I would not have preordered this game on the Switch if it was made explicitly clear these changes would exist. FFS, even the artbooks are censored.”

Still others pointed out the irony of Dispatch’s strict censorship in comparison to the wealth of mature titles that are available to buy on Nintendo’s eShop, noting that even Cyberpunk, a game with tons of violence, cursing, and nudity, went “untouched” on the Switch.

Thus far, AdHoc Studios has yet to respond to these concerns, prompting many fans to seek refunds and purchase the game for other platforms.

Dispatch remains a beloved game despite this confusing situation, and even has a shot at being nominated at the 2026 Game Awards in spite of its late 2025 release date.
